GT's why the dislike ?

How can GT be cool when someone can pop into Halfords with £200 and walk out with one? It says GT on the sticker so it's as good as all the other GT's I can see in MBUK.

Probably because it's about whether it was cool in a retro sense, not nowadays - see my argument for Cannondale not being cool.

I don't think GT were/are a cool brand incidentally. Cool individual bikes, absolutely, but not as a brand.

We are reminded, time and time again, that this part of the forum (and the fourm in itself, fundamentally) is for retro bikes. So, under that guise, we are talking pre-97 GT's.. Like the ones in the pics in this very thread.

They, imo, are cool.

And I wasn't aware that you could walk into Halfords and buy a 14 year old MTB...

I think that's an Alu one, in red, with "85" next to the GT...

On the Halfords front they only started selling GTs around 2000 onwards.
I bought my low end GT from a proper bike shop in 1998/9 and the range
was very different from what it is now.

In those days there were a few low end models a big jump to the mid-range (which I couldn't afford !) and then the top end. Now there are lots
of low end models (in Halfords) which are made down to a price.

Will GT be allowed to be cool again now Halfords are stopping selling them ? I haven't heard anyone bitching about Kona being uncool and
rubbish 'because they (until very recently) sell em in Halfords'.

I know orrible things.

This Zaskar is lovely, I had to try very hard not to buy an RTS is this colour on ebay last week. I think my favourite bit about hardtail GT's is the lower angle of the seatstay, which for some reason always makes a bike look good, like the tiny Kona's from BITD.

Nope, can't stand mine... ;)

The RTS is cool, but I would say that, I still ride mine most days, it's stiff and works really quite well off road.
