So after a hiatus of 27 years since owning a Zaskar LE 1994 model (that was stolen as all bikes are in Oxford), an opportunity finally came my way to own another.
It's the only bike I've genuinely missed from my early years of MTB'ing, so when forum member Kevhl offered me the frame & forks for a fair price I took him up on it. For convenience I also snagged a load of parts for it so it didn't sit around in a state of build for months on end.
I then snaffled a few bits of NOS off of fleabay (grips/pedals/bar ends/tyres), and finalised the build to a level that reflected the way I'd hoped my Zaskar may have looked back in the day.
Then Kevhl sent me a link to some bloody Spin wheels, so obviously it was mandatory to shod it up with those even if it meant a day of silence from the missus. Forum member Fat Gav hooked me up with his set last week and to be fair whilst they aren't a universally loved wheel for ride characteristics, they just look so right on a Zaskar.
The Spins came back with new SKF bearings this morning so are spinning sweet as a nut. Then the morning post arrived and forum member kiwideturin had sent me the final part of the jigsaw, some period correct Hope wheel Skewers, so that pretty much completes the build for me.
Thought I'd share the progress as it wont see daylight again until I drag it to the Malvern Classic to see if I can get 'No Way' to sign the top tube. A few pics of the journey, and a big thank you to all of you who helped get a Zaskar back in my life and empty my bank account
