GT Xizang Serial number thread

Mine is a 1991 20" stamped with serial number G20001 and includes 'MADE IN THE USA'.

Owned from new and currently doing a light restoration for the first time to mark its 30th birthday!

Pictures will be up in a few weeks hopefully. DSC_7134 copy.jpg

#148...1991 Xizang Bi-Metal. Not sure why it's numbered that high. There were maybe 50 made in total. There are only photos of 8 posted over all the years on the web. Maybe the 1 signfies 91 and it was the 48th built, not sure.
Again this is a 1991 Xizang. The fully Ti model in 1991 was called the Xizang LE.

Could it be possible that all 50 weren’t built in succession so maybe they built LE versions and Bi metal together and they just got stamped at random?

No, I don't believe so. My original 91 Xizang LE that I bought in 1991 has a serial number that starts with TTN. There's no TTN anywhere on this bottom bracket just the simple 148 stamping.
