GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike with Girvin Vector Forks

Indeed, best used imo is to put in a Mag21 forks. Looks best on every RTS.

About the painting, do not paint it, GT's should be polished (or the '99 ZaskarLE colours)

How much is a Mag21 fork, how good is it and how am I supposed to deal with the damage shown in the above images without painting it?

You won this then

With a spring instead of an elastomer, will those Girvins have any damping? I'd imagine between that and the somewhat unsophisticated rear suspension the ride might get quite lively (especially if the rear shock has lost its oil)

You ain't gonna be able to permanently remove deep scratches or dents, but a thorough polish will get it looking good enough to make you forget about them.

How ever did you guess?

So a CORFM spring is a bad idea then? Lost oil? What do I need to do to sort this out?

I don't want to forget about the damage though, I want to remove it :)

An undamped spring on a fork is a bad idea; but with no specific experience of this type of Girvin fork there may be independent damping (although i suspect the original design relies on the inherent damping properties of the elastomer)?

Unless you fill the dents and deep scratches and powder coat the frame, you can't 'remove' them. A 15 year old frame is meant to have a few war wounds

Hello Pickle,

just how much of a difference do you think that Quadra's would make?

So I need to tighten and loosen the shock spring repeatedly? How many times?

I will use Autosol and Brasso, but first need to sort out:

Additionally, I have uploaded a video to demonstrate what happens when I puch on the rear shock (after tightening and loosening as you suggested).

The Quadra or Mag will make a big difference. Whilst I haven't ridden a Vector, I can safely say a Mag would be a lot lighter and feel a lot easier on the handling.

The shock doesnt need to be repeatedly tweaked, just find a setting that suits.

As for the frame, you wont be able to get rid of the deep marks, but the polish should make a good improvement.

Then this may be my only option, any recommendations on colour? How does powder coating work? Is it like a primer? Do you apply colour afterwards? If I want a shiny finish, what type of paint should I use? How many layers should I apply etc? I'd appreciate a step by step of the process of painting the bike.
