Hi guys,

Been re-searching this now for a few weeks, and got about 700 screen grabs stored up of Scott Unishock forks. I know this is probably an impossible find. But i was after a 1991 (none recall model) scott unishock fork 1 1/8.

I don't care about the cosmetic condition, it would be amazing if they functioned, but if there stuck thats ok.

From my research it seems only the forks made from 1991 till 1992 were safe from the recall. Please correct me if this is wrong.
And that it was mainly the first white leg coil spring versions (not the elastomer version) that were safe from the recall.

But this thread below shows a full on carbon / with elastomer scott fork from 1991 so i've become a little confused.

If any of OG Scott lovers has a timeline with corresponding images of first unishock models that were sold in 1991, could you please post it?

In the scott catalogues there were no unishocks until the 92 catalgoue and its seems all bikes released with them were included in the recall.

Also i know some have said that its just a as dangerous to be riding a 30 year old aluminum frame as it is to ride a recall unishock and as this fork would just be used to riding around mainly flat roads and toe paths not bombing down hills etc i will probably just go for a recall verison if its impossible to get a 1991 pre-recall version.

If anyone has one they want to park with please do let me know.

To anyone that replies thanks so much for the help and advice.

Ps i know there's a few for sale on ebay, i have contacted the owners and asked for manufacture year & if these arre included in the recall version etc but not really getting any replies.

Nah, they're 1994 model foks, the title just hasn't been changed.

1991 as 1992 if just called Scott Unishock in white or black, usually seen in white, should be fine. It was a change or something to the bonding in the 93 and 94 models.
(From memory).
I say fine, the recall was recent bonding of some so all get recalled. Not 33 year old bonding which could be as brittle as anything by now, who knows ;-)

You'll have metal springs inside (main spring), unless they have been 'updated'

@FluffyChicken you are the greatest, your knowledge is unreal. Thanks so much for replying. I see quite a few white ones with the green Scott logo down each side. Do you know when they released though’s?

Hey guys, hope your all well.

Finally managed to get hold of a Scott Unishock fork.

I was desperately trying to find the very first gen with big "unishock" decal version from 1991 that weren't in the recall, but couldn't seem to find one in 1 1/8" size that i need.

So ended up with a world cup edition unishock. I'm presuming its an earlier version of the world cup edition poss from 1992? as the cantilever mounts only have 1x whole drilled in them. Where the green decal world cup's i see a lot more of online have 3x holes drilled in this area. But if anyone can confirm this, and put a year of production on these forks? that would be amazing.

It's crazy how hard these are to come by and the price they still command especially in the UK, but i guess the huge recall and one's that were not recalled possibly cracking answers that i guess.

I bought this fork as seized / none working / parts only. I've spent days researching these forks. And i know there was a member on here who has re-built a few of these. I screen grabbed his name, so now just need to find that screen grab 🫣 so i can DM him.

I just had a few questions before i start the tear down.

Has anyone ever found (either after market or poss from a different brand of fork), replacement leg seals that fit these forks, these are both shot.

And for anyone that owns one would you please take a quick look up the steerer tube to see if its plugged like this one. I can't tell if it's a metal or plastic plug/cap yet as its covered in grease / grime. Just wanted to check if its meant to be there? or if its has been added.

And if anyone who know these, can you see anything glaringly obvious that looks completely off / dangerous where you wouldn't even attempt to fix it. I know this version is probably included in the recall. So i know most of you will say not to run it. But it was just going to be added to a canal toe path commuter bike that i would never take down a trail & was going to just keep checking it for cracks etc.

Ps if i cant fix it my plan was to run it anyway just as a fixed fork, as i love the way these forks look, with the oversized tubes and massive vertical scott decals compared to the slimmer curved scott OEM forks etc.

Any help / advice massively appreciated as per usual.

Just a note on decal colours. I had the first gen forks when they came out and they came with both green and black decals in the box as I recall.

Hi @gtturbo thanks for replying, ahhh wow, thats interesting so you had to put the decals on yourself?

I'm guessing you can't remember the year you bought your 1st gen's? 1991?

i just found this post of another forum about the models that weren't included in the recall and more info on why the recall happened.

From the info below, i think the model i have is possibly from 1993 and could be a 1993 Unishock S so was part of the re-call.

So hard to find info on the year of release of these different models.

Also this is a great website with loads of info about the unishocks, which you've prob seen already, but still doesn't 100% confirm different model version year of release etc.

Please see copy and paste below from different forum.

The recall affected ONLY the Unishocks models that had a variant code to them, so the original 1991-92 production run forks where the model was simply called Scott Unishocks were NOT part of the recall. These forks came one of two ways, white painted legs with black or neon green decals for the most part (both OEM and Aftermarket), or black painted legs with usually neon green or pink decals (largely OEM only). I have an NOS black one with a short threaded 1 1/8 steerer that originally came on a 1992 Rocky Mountain Team Comp. The internals were all the same, long coil springs for the main spring duties with short bottom and top out elastomer bumpers to reduce the klunk noises at the ends of the travel.

The following 1993 to 1994 forks all picked up variant letters as they offered different versions of the model to compete at different price points. The Unishocks S was basically the copy of the previous year's Unishocks, the VR replaced the long coil spring with a long bumper stack of elastomers, and the LF was like the VR except it got carbon fiber sliders instead of aluminium ones (all the Scott lowers were epoxy bonded from seperate dropouts, sliders and brace forgings). Somewhere in the change to these new models, the epoxy either got changed types or a bad batch got used because these forks were the only ones affected by the recall. The 1994 LF-R had a different brace on its lowers but otherwise still kept the carbon legs as the LF. There was also a 700C version who's model variant I forget the name of.

91 sounds about right as I had them on my 1990 Cannondale frame. From what I recall the green stickers were already fitted but the black were spare in the box. Might have been the other way around as it was a long time ago now.

Wow very cool would of loved to of seen them mounted to your cannondale. I'm guessing you don't have any pics of them on your bike? Thanks for extra info, will add this to my ever growing research folder on these forks, thanks again for help with this 🙌 🙌 🙌
