GT Psyclone 1994 16 inch - very slow build

I’ve decided to go with a Bologna fork in the end. I’ve taken one for a fresh lick of paint in gloss black ready for the build.

I was lucky to find a great donor bike with a complete M900 groupset and wheels so that’s mostly taken care of now.

In terms of components I’ve a few options with either a silver or black theme.

I could go atac or Gt flip flop in silver for the stem. I’m swaying towards ATAC.

For bars it’s either hyper lite or GT super lite. I do also have some black Taperlite 2 on route too.


Grips can be the OE GT ones or ODI Tomac



Headset is either black or silver CK



I’d welcome any input.

Cranks can be M900 or these RS1 (I’d ditch the blue ring). M900 are away being refurbed.



With either a UN90 or Royce BB




For wheels I’ve got a pair of Araya RM400 pro with M900 hubs, skewers and cassette

Fetched the forks back from paint today so it’s allowed me to mock a build up

Only bits im not sure about is the Cable hanger for front canti is black and I think needs to be silver or fork mounted - any ideas?

I’m also not sure about the Atac. It’s very chunky for the skinny frame. But so is a Syncros.

Thoughts good and bad?

It is looking great as it is IMHO! but...would be interesting to see the Syncros stem as an alternative. I guess the Syncros is chunky too, but it also tapers, in the same way the frame does. I think most of the Psyclones I have seen (which is not a lot!) have either Syncros stem or, a couple have used regular GT `Flip flops' colour matched to the forks.... Just my 2p

I’ve got a black Syncros - which is destined for my RTS but I could swap it around.

I do have an alloy flip flop which is silver which I could have painted black too.

I always try ti stick with the same colour Seatpost / stem and bars - and also same brand or similar

Yes, so do I... and that's a good point, the stem should match the seat post and bars... (In fact I am so OCD about this I'm shocked I even suggested a black stem )..... so the alloy flip flop could be an alternative ? (I still think it looks awesome as it is though!)

My issue is that the XTR post found has got to stay on this which means I need a silver stem to me

And the RTS has a black Syncros post so I’ve got to go black Syncros on the stem.

My issue with the flip flop is that it looks like a cheap stem compared to the more well known brands

Then the ATAC is the answer (pun intended ) Unless you get a chrome Syncros..

I’ll keep an eye out for a silver 0’degree Syncros for sure. Ideally with a noodle if they made such a thing.

I’ve got a Controltech combo in silver on my aqua Zaskar but that leaves me with mismatched ones for that (OCD - first world problems)

Had a play around with different options

This is black Syncros (with a bit of rise) with black bars

Or a combo of silver Atac with black bars. This option ties the forks in nicely with black but also leaves the silver stem to match the Seatpost.
