I loved getting my jerk chicken under the Westway, and browsing the market at Portobello.
I was trying to think where Grenfell Tower is?
I lived in a squat in Cambridge gardens in 1974 and knew my way round pretty well.

When I lived in squats in the eighties half of us worked on building sites, were any of your associates doing the same? Might have worked on the Grenfell site! Supposedly was built that year.

Just found an interesting site showing the area when the Westway was built.

1974 must have been a great time to live round Ladbroke!

Re:

Wait for the evidence and facts to point to how the fire actually started. But the predating decision making processes and other issues that allowed what could have been a 'containable' fire to become such a tragedy, need to be enquired into.

Great black and white photos of the building of the West Way.

i don't think they know how it started? It could be arson!!!! The investigation will take time
Who needs an investigation? We have all the experts and answers here...

May should surely save us all the time and money and just refer to this thread.

Based on her current approach that's a decent idea.

Fire now known to originate from a fridge:

Building has a long history of electrical problems spectacularly destroying white goods:

Funny seeing people who choose to close their eyes block their ears up sarcastically accuse the observant of "having all the answers". The answers are there if you look.

Re:

Well, it's said to be believed that the initial seat of the fire was a fridge. But I struggle to envisage just how a rogue fridge alone could incinerate a whole tower block in a very short space of time.

Fire can take your entire room in three minutes or less. Through the window, up the cladding. The very flammable, banned in several countries cladding. In general the building had a lot of fire safety problems, alarms not working etc. Residents complained about it for years.

I can well believe it was the fridge, it's supposed to be the most common white goods fire.

Re:

With modern block buildings and fire prevention methods, the idea is a fire is or should be contained in one enclosed space until it burns out or fire response crews arrive. However, I feel most already know that essentially it was probably a catalogue of planning and decision making errors from choice of materials to implementation of regulations that contributed to the disaster.

Siddiq Khan always gets on my tits, he is an odious toad at the best of times and a down right two faced nobba at the worst of times.

Today he said "people were angry not simply at the poor response in the days afterwards from the council and the Government, but the years of neglect from the council and successive governments". "The tragedy we're seeing is because of the consequences of mistakes and neglect from politicians, from the council, and from the Government." "As the mayor of London I will do my bit to be the advocate, to be the fighter, and to be the champion of these people."

What a prick

He made the jump from the tory majority council (it does have Labour councillors too), to the tory government.

He bemoaned the governments response was not enough and not quick enough whilst missing out one key point, he is the Mayor of London. A mayor that has the resources of 32 borough councils and the city of London, what was he doing himself with all that power as mayor other than slagging others off?

His job is to be the big cheese for London and whilst saying other politicians offer platitudes, he offers the biggest on himself. Just what are you being paid for Mr Mayor if not to be in charge of London and where were you when needed in the early days? Far to busy pushing blame on others and looking for any Camera that would have you whilst conveniently side stepping your own responsibility as London's mayor

London is quite a big place, I don't think you can expect him to do the local council's job of disaster response, or to time travel back a few years and change what cladding was chosen.

He is correct to push blame on the people who's fault it actually is.
