London is quite a big place, I don't think you can expect him to do the local council's job of disaster response, or to time travel back a few years and change what cladding was chosen.

He is correct to push blame on the people who's fault it actually is.

If you can't expect the London mayor to manage London's resources and to be able to mobilise London's available assets to help a struggling London council and it's residents, then why do we have a London mayor?

As to who's fault it is, why should that excuse him from doing a lousy job of Mayor?

Not a clue if he's doing a lousy job as Mayor or not - mostly his role is going to be telling other people to do stuff for him.

If he went down himself personally handing out disaster relief it'd be great but in britain the bar for politicians is very low.

Yet again another thread made to honour the fallen. Only to be made somewhat toxic by their twisted opinions.
If you can't say anything respectful to the thread, just say nothing.

Re:

My missus had an aunt and uncle who owned a newsagents sweet shop round by there during the 60s and 70s, when the old terraces were still up. It was one of the area locations they used to film the The Sweeney. One time, they were filming for an episode in that street and the upstairs living quarters of the sweet shop was used by the crew for John Thaw's dressing room.

Going back to Sadiq Khan, we were covering a campaign for a story in a publication. He was quite obnoxious and had little time for us, as we were obviously not important enough to fraternise with. However, when the time came for his photo opportunity, he was momentarily all charm and schmarm, until we'd fulfilled the day's brief.

Then you have missed the point of the thread, it is not to promote a transormers film.

If I have an issue with my council, I contact the councils main desk
they in turn may put me through to a general front desk/enquiries service
If I am unhappy with thier reply, I can register a stage one complaint
The head of the contact department will contact me after investigation
If I am unhappy with their reply I can contact the councils head of department for that cause for concern
If I am unhappy with their reply I can contact the head of the council
If I am unhappy with their reply I can contact the council complaints ombudsman
in London's case I can then contact the london mayors office also

Only after all of this can I write to the government minister for the issue that is a concern.
Mr Khan has taken residents concern straight from the council straight to government without acknowledging he had a part to play and failed in that part as Mayor or London

You will never know what happened, how to avoid it and have a decent feedback to the people it concerned, if one of the key players refuses to take any responsibility himself despite his role being clearly identified as having a major input.

That doesn't matter whatever party you are in. Khan has tried a side step and absolve himself from a single degree of responsibility, the residents deserve a mayor that will involve himself more than just when cameras are around.

You don't honour the fallen by sweeping their killers under the rug you muppet.

Could be worse, I remember a local ukip candidate a few years back who was self publishing a newsletter about himself. Credited every role to himself, writer, editor, photographer etc on stories where he talked about himself in third person (!). He was apparently escorted off school premises at one point because he invited himself to a sports day for "publicity".

Re:

Expressing personal views is one thing, but being personally abusive to other site members is another.

My intention in starting the thread was to give us somewhere to talk about what happened without the politicised title.

Again, it is possible for considerate members to edit their posts to keep things positive.

It is a great thing to have a debate about important matters. I found it interesting to hear about people's experience of the area of London I have called home for a good deal of my life, (albeit my second seldom visited home these days), but not so interesting to hear the repetitive opinions of people who seem to see all discussion as an opportunity to press their world view into the corners of every conversation.

See?

It's easy if you try taking your head out of your behind for a moment.

"I fear that the usual suspects will politicise this thread once more, which in some ways is the saddest thing of all....."
Let's just leave it there.
Peace to all the victims and families.
