Grease

Mainly for headsets, hubs and pedals. It's a cheap knock-off of the Volvo Penta PSG.

So it doesn't look like any of the bicycle brands' products get a look in?
Snake oil.........Few things wind me right up, but grease BS is one of them!

If you feel better paying £20 for 10g of magic grease then great, but I dont like the fact these companies play on people with little understanding and tell them that they will die if they dont use "old codwrangles gold goose grease" on their headset...BS.

Yes there are instances where you need the correct product.... carbon etc, but 40 years of building everything from racing engines to limestone crushing plant tells me there ain't much in it.....certainly not on a metal bike...

Anyway...maintaining your bike is surely far more important ?...if you clean and service your hubs once every 5000 miles or so, take out the bottom bracket and drain the frame if you must wade through knee deep water, remove your seatpost one a year and wipe/ regrease you probably won't get issues....

Am gonnae put my stick of margarine in next

And upon that silly comment I'll add that I agree with Tooty. There's no doubt that the stuff we buy is just rebranded as bike specific, going at a premium rate, and honestly the same goes for about 70 percent of bike tools. There's certainly some that are specific to the trade and worth getting, but a lot of it is nonsense. Get greasy and do it cheapy!

Guilty as charged! When my dads old tin of Castrol LM ran out I once bought a toothpaste tube size Phil Wood grease for about £10, a lot of money at the time and I’m honest because it was Phil Wood and it was green!

Never done anything as daft as this nonsense though……..

ok, so my moly comment was mean't in jest to some degree and the correct type of lubricant for the purpose is ideal. I have a few different tubs, of which moly is one, but I also have a tub of silicone grease for seals, a tub of lithium grease for open bearings a tub white lithium for hinged items (rear and front mechs etc.) and a tub of PTFE for when I'm feeling fancy. none of these are bike specific, they get used for other purposes (and bought for that too) and it's what I've used to service everything from bikes to HGV's over the years.

and if all else fails i've got some WD40. (dives over upended table as the bullets start to fly) :)

Recently bought a big tub of this 3-in-1 lithium grease found hiding and covered in dust on the bottom shelf of the local hardware store.

The price per kilo was about a third of those farty tubes. Will do fine for most things, especially servicing low end bikes for neighbours etc.
