Fuel economy - What do you get?

Standard Rover 620turbo (200bhp) = 32mpg. :(
Modified MG Maestro with same engine, tuned to 285bhp but fitted with Emerald K3 stand alone EMS = 36mpg :D

Modded one runs lean on low loads??? (or generally more efficiently than a rover built one...)

Skoda Fabia TDI - 100bhp (was) now close to 300bhp

50mpg long term average still

45mpg on a town run

Cruise control stuck on at 65mph GPS on motorway sees 60+mpg! Have seen 65+ on occasion. Gotta love low boost, high volume turbos on small diesels. Ultra efficient!

As far as I'm aware your Skoda ( and my 'Dub) have variable vane turbos

to get 300BHP you'd have had to have changed the clutch, injectors and fuel pump?

Standard TDI will do 170bhp+ with no mechanical mods

300bhp would rip your standard fabia clutch out every time you pulled away at the lights.

yeah but Meastro? All that through one wheel? Thats what rear wheel drive is for and why Austin Rover products are, er, bad...

Mercedes s600 v12 twin turbo 11mpg city and 16 Hwy

Lamborghini Gallardo 10 mpg city and 15 hwy

2005 Ford GT 994 rear wheel horsepower (supercharged and twin turboed) 8 mpg city and between 11 and 16 hwy depending how's it's driven

31 foot 2007 Ford powered RV. 5.5 to 7.2 mpg

Yup - Which is why I have a 600 lb/ft clutch from the USA along with a single mass flywheel. I wouldn't like to list out all the other engine mods as it would take some time. Suffice to say the engine alone owes me around £10,000 in porting, custom manifolds, big turbo, forged rods, big injectors, high lift cam - and thats before thinking about other mods like intercooling, methanol injection, exhaust, oil cooling, nitrous injection, etc etc. But, all in all, it makes the car more efficient, and diesel tuning does not affect economy - which is a plus. Makes it better if anything.

I do still have a variable vane turbo yes, only mine is off the latest Audi Q7 3.0 litre V6 - adapted to fit 1.9.

Vauxhall Zafira GSI Turbo (199.8 bhp)

Owned it a week and its been mainly round town driving, havent had a proper run in it yet, and its returning 23.5 mpg.

Hopefully get a proper run it it soon to see what it'll do.

Just how accurate are these on-board computers you are all using to calculate fuel consumption?

I don't own a car new enough to have one, I always use the "fill-up/reset trip/fill-up" method to get exact fuel consumption v miles.
