Frame painting help needed

Hello
I need some advice for my Muddy fox Alu team frame.
How should I paint does chips, and with what?

I had some red paint from my kona 94 fire mountain which is very similar to this one, but i cant find it anywere.

and one more thing, should I worry about that minor crack? I don't see it in the inside, but...

Nail varnish? You would not be the first person to take a frame into the chemists Plastikote do an excellent aluminium primer which I have used without any issues,aerosol only but just spray a little into the lid and brush on, As to the crack ,,I will leave that to someone better qualified than myself.

you dont have to be qualified to advise on that crack ( BIN THE FRAME ) its not safe any more and its an accident waiting to happen and i for one would not like to be riding that bike when that crack hits the other end. :cry:

The frame is scrap with that crack.

Sorry but the size of that crack and on the headtube, I would hang it up and would use it for sure.

You can get it repaired, but it will probably cost more than a new frame and it'll most likely crack again.
The only certain methods are having the crack welded and a collar fitted (like these) ... or complete replacement of the headtube by a professional framebuilder or Muddy Fox themselves (IF the latter are willing to fix it).

I'd only go that route if the bike has lots of sentimental value, otherwise I'd hang the frame on the wall and look for another one.

Nail varnish does wonders for matching a lot of the glittery and shiny frame parts . its even better if you throw a good wet laquer over the top . I would be very careful of that crack though . I had a frame fracture like that a while ago fortunately it didnt completely split or shatter but it was close . I think had i been doing any severe off roading it would have totally shattered .

Hi, Your crack appears to be in the seat tube. I would suggest that you strip the paint from the area around the crack and above the weld using a paint stripper ( no abrasives )

Then carefully examine the crack to find where it stops. It might be wise to buy a crack detector kit ( comprises a penetrant dye and detector powder )
if this is not obvious.

If the crack is still above the welded joint, you need to stop the crack making further progress. This is best achieved by drilling a small hole right through the tube at the bottom of the crack slightly beyond its lowest point.

The hole needs to be about 2mm in diameter and preferably chamfered inside and out.

I would suggest that you check the fit of your seat tube and make sure that you have both a generous insertion length and a wide supportive clamp.

Seat tube... You sure? Looks more like the headstock? ...anyway if it were mine and given what it's worth I'd scrap it as fubar

dont try and fix that by having it welded it needs a new headtube
