Frame identification help?

DD_10

Retro Newbie
Sorry for the random post but after patient dismantling, cleaning and looking for clues, I am still none the wiser on this frame - usually by this point I would have worked out at least some clues. Seems like half decent quality (maybe with emphasis on half) trying to look good, with imitation Nervex lugs. Weight is 2,100g frame and 740g forks. Frame number stamped on left right drop out says something like 4482. Nothing stamped on steerer tube that I can see. Only other marking is an "x" on centre underside of bottom bracket. BB shell has unusual raised edge exterior. Has braze ons for right hand rear shifting only. Drop outs look stamped and plain without rear derailleur hanger. Rear dropout measures about 124mm. Rear chainstay has cable stop braze on. Takes 27.2 seat post. The terrible gold spray job hides original purple paint underneath.

Any clues welcome to help me decide what to do with this one.

Hi just read your thread. I too have recently acquired what was described as a “ Tom Bromwich” frame that is structurally sound but in dire need of some TLC. I’ve looked everywhere for a frame identifier but nothing, no numbers or hyphens. It has a R531 sticker on the seat tube and Tom Bromwich stickers on the down tube and head tube. I like the frame & detailing but am nervous about spending lots of money in case it’s a “nothing” frame. Any thoughts following your own experiences ?
