My girlfriend had her bike stolen last night in Leith in Edinburgh. She had chained it up, and it was an old Falcon lady's frame she got for 20 quid 2 years ago. Cant believe some little scrotum pinched it. Must be a nightmare leaving an expensive bike somewhere and coming back to find it gone.

I remember buying a brand new Orange P7 in 1999, my dream bike at the time! Then some scrote pinched it 4 months later, cut the lock with bolt cutters then took the bike complete with broken lock.

The guy was caught later that day but the police reckoned he had a van or something local to stash bike in as a whole load of decent bikes had gone missing that day, they caught him with only one, the last one of that day so to speak.... I was furious!! and soooo gutted

i managed to catch the bar steward who stole mine i bet the liveing daylights out of him as his answer was "its my bike know even if i nicked what you gonna do about it" he took two weeks to get out of hospital he looks at the floor if he see's me in town     what a cock im proud that i managed to knock some maners into him    did i ever mention i was a navel chef attached to a royal marine squadron       he never pressed charges ever     sorry if this offends anyone but the lad had it coming   nicking my bike

I had just finished building my brand new Funk. I went to the library to drop off a couple books. When I came out it was gone. The walk home was horrible. Several months later the lad that stole the bike called Mountain Bike Specialists (I had a decal of this LBS on the frame). He told the LBS he wanted to get the bike back to it's owner. Of course the crew at MBS knew it was my bike. Later that night I got a call from the guy. He wanted 500 dollars to return it. I told him to call back and I would somehow get the money. I called the police, they came over and I explained the situation. The cop said the guy would probably not call back. Just then, the phone rang. The cop was writing instructions to me on a pad of paper while I talked to the guy. The cop had me tell the guy that I had the money and to meet me in a couple hours at a local 7-11. Then some undercover cops showed up after about an hour. I got into the car with the detectives and we drove to the store. As we were coming up to the store I noticed my bike wedged into the back seat of a car parked on the side of the road a 1/2 block from the store. The cops pulled a guy out of the car and I identified the bike. As they were hooking the guy up somebody in a trench coat comes walking up to the scene and says "hey WTF." As the cops were plain clothes he didn't know what was going on. The cops told the guy to show them his hands, he wouldn't and the cop draws down on the dude and the guy pulls out a huge knife..... several months later I had to testify against the guy on a possesion of stolen property charge. Both of the guys got into trouble and I had my bike back. Plus, after the Funk was stolen I had purchased an Ultimate to replace it. So I had 2 cool bikes then! That's my stolen bike story. It sounds even better after a couple pints.

ever had a bike stolen?

My PK Ripper - owned it about two weeks when it was nicked from inside Rom skatepark - this was about '82.

Never got it back but I got a first generation Haro Freestyler to replace it - sold that a couple of years ago.

You learn your lesson after that... Have never ever left a bike unattended in public since.

Pal of mine had his fixie lifted from outside a shop. He came out to see it depart. He shouted, and the git taking it tried to freewheel round into a side street...not knowing it was a fixie, clearly....well the next thing was the scumbag surfing down the street on his chin.

The punishment certainly fitted the crime.

Offends anyone? Hell, you're my hero! :D

Had a custom built Intense 5.5 stolen a couple of years ago to the tune of about £3000 (maybe more, but 35,000 Danish anyway). I'd like to sick cannondale king on him if I ever come across him.

Kona Cindercone, GT Borrego, GT Karakoram, Marin B17, Peugeot Puma, Specialized Stumpjumper pro, Mirra BMX, brothers racer (oops), my raleigh racer..... 3 of them i got jumped by gangs of chavs avec knives etc, 2 were D locked to railings (railings were sawn off), one locked with cheap lock - to the railings outside the police station (!?!) 2 from college (crap locks, was naieve) one (my brothers!) i got pissed and left it in my sisters garden unlocked ( ). my mate even cemented one of those "thief proof" brackets inside his locked up garage, locked his beloved Orange with 2 d-locks - nicked!

No wonder this town was in top ten chav towns, ah well, always make sure i cycle quick at nite and never leave 'em alone not even for a second.
