Ebay rant

Old School Grand Master
My girlfriend has sold a few bits on Ebay for Christmas money. One of those was my old laptop. I wrote the description listing it as spares or repair, as although it started OK the fan was really noisy and needed fixing before it was used again.

The seller has deliberately setup a BIOS password then claimed it wasn't as described as it doesn't start. I am now obliged to offer him a full refund including postage and pay for his postage to return it. Either that or just give him his money back and let him keep the laptop.

I don't really care about the laptop or the £30, but it's really irritating. EBay has effectively rewritten the law. Gwin's a private seller. It seems completely unreasonable.

I'm half tempted to drive down to the chap in question and collect the laptop in person.

Re:

What do eBay actually say in person about it rather than the robot response of it.

If it is spares or repairs, unless the description says it starts, I wouldn't expect it to start.
Still hang it out as you didn't put the password on their.

EBay is a great platform to buy and sell goods however, sadly let down by the minority.
I saw an item that I was happy with the “buy it now price” and contacted the seller to see I could collect the item as it was only about 30 miles away.
The seller agreed, so I went to buy it only to find that he had increased the “buy it now price”. I didn’t go ahead with the purchase as you can imagine.
This seller intentions was clearly to make money from the P&P as opposed to simply covering his costs at the buyers expense.

Re:

Do you have url for the auction? You can probably advice him how to reset the bios password ;).

This bloody happened to me last year! I too messaged a seller and told the guy I'll buy now and pick it up,
I clicked on the BIN button and just as I was about the click the paypal payment I noticed the fcuker had
put on £10, I went mad and he said he'd put the £10 on as I'm collecting the item, told him to get fcuked
and then got in touch with ebay and reported him for what he had done.

I have to say Ebay live chat is the worst customer support I have ever experienced. They never answered any of my questions, then said they had told me all they could on the matter and disconnected me after ten minutes.

Is there a way of actually speaking to a person at Ebay?
