Fat downtube Zaskars are homely bikes. Neat color, but...

Very little difference in the tubing diameter from the early to mid 90's Z's. Most of the "fatness" is accomplished in the Bi-Oval shaping of the down tube. Oval-round-oval for a larger weld surface at the head tube and BB.

These red ano frames were really a one year wonder..1996 model year. Tough to find red ones in this consition many have faded some. As all the early ano Zaskar's (92-6) they were ball burnished first before being anodized so they had nice depth of color and sheen unlike the beat blasted looking frost ano frames from 1997.

One must also remember the emotional attachment that some bidders have for a frame like this. Likely someone that had a neighborhood GT dealer with one on the floor back then when the current high bidder could only afford an Outpost. Now 15 years later he can afford it and is willing to pay and deserves it.

Completely understand where you are coming from, but as you know, complete ones can be had stateside for less than this amount, without too much difficulty.

The GT Zaskar and the Specialized m2 Stumpjumper are my two favorite mass produced mountain bikes from the 90's
