Haha no - it's me looking at it on my ancient smartphone! D'oh..

Decals from a member on here called gil_m. He always does a great job.

I'm converting an 89 tufftrax to single speed - using the same ratio. This vintage has horizontal drop outs - but my one needs a lot of tlc first

cool, thanks. here's a slightly less crappy photo.
I've got a few bits left over from the donor bike if anyone's interested.
rockshox Judy sl forks, lx tripple crank and rings, club roost blue anodized risers... all quite tired but maybe of use to someone?

I would be interested if it's going to save them from the tip and they just need a new home, I don't have any funds for bike bits anymore though. Let me know

nb. probably would'nt need the fork, I'm guessing that's a suspension fork

Re:

Right o,

After weeks of cleaning bits, trying them out then finding they don't work  here's my finally finished 89 ?Kiliflyer 'special edition'.

Basically the shifter pods refused to come back to life and feel like there's no ratchet mechanism left in them, not sure if someone with more expertise would get them working but I certainly couldn't. So decided to use some SRAM x4 shifters, however this meant I also had to use the SRAM x4 rear mech due to their odd cable pull and then didn't have room to fit the old STi canti brake levers back on. So of course this meant I had to use some spare Avid V brake levers, which in turn meant I had to use some V brakes. Which actually probably isn't such a bad thing as I reckn I might have been taking my life in my hands round here using the old canti's. So much for plans to re-use everything, however I retained the front mech, bars, stem and wheels which I completely overhauled down to the freehub. All other parts were pulled in off my abandoned Alpine stars project or spares boxes at home, total outlay was just a pair of Swchalbe marathon tyres, cables, chain and some Ritchy grips so at least i sort of kept the cost down.

Took it for the first ride yesterday and very happy with the results. Today made some adjustments to controls, saddle height, fitted some spds and took it for a quick pre rush hour spin and really into it, so much so the bike has been nominated as my new work/hack bike. I'm not sure if it's after riding road bikes for so long but it feels very agile and surprisingly responsive. Only downside, I discovered the cassette needs replacing too and a bunch of teenaged school girl rude girls made some mean comments about my pink bike when I passed the McDonalds drive thru

Please excuse the oddly adjusted controls and untrimmed cables, pics were taken on yesterday's test ride.

In the spirit of things, if anyone thinks they can get the old shifters working they are welcome to the whole STI units and cantis with some new straddle cables, also the green onza bar ends are still available.

Re:

I have abandoned my 91 Tuff Trax single speed project on p159 after getting my hands on a cheap ss road bike.

Any one fancy picking it up from South Manchester minus saddle bars and stem?

I'll bob it on the for sale thread at some point.

After weeks fruitlessly "searching" for a new (to me!) bike to maintain my motivation for the 12-15 miles a day that I manage as a means to keep what little of my lungs remain working a while longer, decided to give my Kili Comp a face lift from winter to spring bike.

New wheels, hopped up from 21 to 27 speed, new shifters and flat bars.

Such a nice frame....

Re:

Hi, does anyone know what this threaded hole is for near the bottom of the seat tube? Could it be for a pulley to use a bottom-pull front mech with the top-pull cable routing?

Also does anyone know anything about the frame, and what front mech it took. The seat tube measures 33mm diameter, which is kinda hard to find a band-on mech to fit, being between 31.8 and 34.9!

Thanks in advance,
Nick.
