Hi, does anyone know what this threaded hole is for near the bottom of the seat tube? Could it be for a pulley to use a bottom-pull front mech with the top-pull cable routing?

Also does anyone know anything about the frame, and what front mech it took. The seat tube measures 33mm diameter, which is kinda hard to find a band-on mech to fit, being between 31.8 and 34.9!

Thanks in advance,
Nick.

Hi Nick

It's been bugging me what this frame is, as I remember the rear canti hanger and the drop outs,

Its a 1992 Saracen Tufftrax Elite frame, probably sold in 93/4 as a special/Ltd edition bike,
to make way for the new noodle type canti hanger frame in 93/94.

Not sure if you knew what frame it was, I found pics from earlier in this thread...

Many thanks for the compliment Kaya, I really like the Saracen as the geometry is spot on for me. The mech (STX RC pictured >>now a Deore DX ) is 31.8. The gear pulley is a replacement sourced from a budget Raleigh MTB rear cantilever cable guide set-up (the one that clamps to the seat-pin bolt).

Dear all,
First time post and I need help identifying/dating my Saracen. This was my best mates bike back in the day it was bright green and top of the range at the time. I got it off him and did it up about 15 years ago (sprayed it grey) now it needs to go to someone who will appreciate it. I will be selling it ebay.
I think it is an early Killi Flyer Comp. It needs some attention, is this valuable?

So, here's mine. I got this secondhand in 1989 and it was a couple of years old then. Not much of the original equipment left and now it is a fixed commuter. First pic was a couple of years ago with the original forks, second is with a front disc brake (so different forks)

It's just gone off to be repainted at Ellis Briggs but the transfers caused some confusion as H Lloyds - who supply most of them - had never seen this type before. I'm guessing it was something knocked up by Saracen.

ETA: it's 531 ATB. Originally had Suntour cantis and thumbshifters, which I still have. I have the original front wheel (Rigida black rim) and it has the original seatpost, but most of the rest of the original kit had been cannibalised before i got it.

Hi there and welcome..

Your bike is a 1988 Trekker (maybe a comp) it was just below the kili in Saracen's line-up,

Valuable... well an 87 Trekker just sold on ebay for £11.50, so I don't think you'll be retiring from selling it

Hope this helps kaya

A little help please!

Hi all, Stumbled across this thread when trying to work out what my old Saracen is.
It's from probably mid to late 90's. I originally had a Rufftrax that I managed to...wreck so I acquired this one off my dad. However he had it customised when he bought it and in the process, all the stickers etc removed. This makes identification rather challenging for me as I want to try and restore it to it's former glory for a big ride I have planned next year!
Any ideas would be greatly received! (I've had a look through the catalogues and I'm still none the wiser...)
Edit: It's an aluminium frame if that helps! (Not that it's not obvious, being rather shiny and all)

Proof it really is a Saracen!

Could be a '98 Dirt Trax or Power Trax. The catalogues are in the archive so you can have a look. Certainly late nineties or early noughties.
