Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I have a nice set of wheels with White Industries hubs, I can get a 7 speed cassette on but not an 8 speed one. I contacted WI and they told me that they may have the freehub for early 8 speed cassettes with a removable ring on the rear that holds the cassette together, they advise me to unbolt it and place the rings and spacers on one by one without it. Anyone know what they are talking about?

I have an M737 cassette and can't see what they're on about. If they are right and I am stupid, then I will put out a swap thread or FS and WTD.

Any help greatly appreciated

Sounds about right. To use a 7sp cassette on an 8sp body, you have to use a spacer, so going the opposite makes sense... I've seen hubs with and with out removable spacers.

theres a thin plastic spacer at the back of the cassette, take it off.

Not on mine there isn't, got any pic's, or know of any particular models where this is the case?

sorry no, i dont use xt

It sounds to me like it involves dismantling the rear hub and swapping the cassette body.

Why don't you ask WI to clarify their explanation? Maybe they can send you a pic, or an exploded diagram, of the hub to make it clearer.
