drilling holes in things

Re:

Im totally with dyna- ti on this.

Shimano; as a massive, engineering company, investing milllions in development, add extra, unnecessary, material to all their products in a bid to help reduce their profits, make their goods heavier in a weight obsessed world and give you something to drill out.

If you need the " hole weight" removed from your ride, eat 5 less cornflakes that morning.

In my old job i sadly witnessed 2 deaths due to " drilling holes" where they should not have been. We had a phrase.

"Designed by experts at the cost of millions....modified by morons at their own expense".

Funny this. I just had a bitch about the moron who invented putting holes in sand-paper.

But holes in sandpaper promote dust extraction ;) Which is a good thing.

I've drilled a drainage hole in a few BB shells. I believe you can do it on new Orange bikes without invalidating the warranty.

Saw a picture somewhere of the results of someone drilling out a fairly current D-A crank to "save weight".

Saved a total of about 10 grams.

Then the crank cracked.

For reference, the inside of the current ones look like this.
