or did Renthal used to do mountain bike bars in the md 90's?? MX style with the crossbar brace?? I thought they did, but don't seem to able to find an in here or eBay? :-(
Failing that, could I use MX bars? Are they a similar width & diameter etc??

They did make those, but the Club Roost ones were much more popular.

I thought they only made the Pace/Renthal sub 180 bar before their recent comeback, sure the braced bars weren't the mx ones. oops meant sub 130

As far as I recall they only did the flat Pace Renthal Sub 130 bars in about 1992 and didn't release any riser bars until their return to the mountain bike market last year.

They made some nice custom drawn alloy bars prior to the RC130s in 89-91 that were used on RC100 bikes and load of people used their MX bars well before the RC130.

Here we go, Renthal Superlite and Renthal Alloy, i think both were shimmed bars with thicker walls than the RC130 (although the Superlite may have been the bulged precursor to the RC130...):
