Dave Yates Vulcan prototype, live the dream.

Not yet, it looks a bit like the one Marin used on the 88 Pine Mountain but can't remember if that had one or two clamp bolts like the Vulcan has or he may have just made his own stem 🤷‍♂️
Any suggestions?
I keep looking at it, because it does look so familiar, it might well be something he made for the frame, but the design does look reminiscent of the Fisher Rhino stems.

Thank the 89 Explosif i sold because now i know what size steerer i need to modify the Tange Prestige forks off the Killi Flyer 😁
I had these P2's off my 19 inch frame 90 Lavadome which were just a bit to short for the Explosif.
I had both frames together and had that eureka moment, the headtube on the Vulcan is shorter 😁
One headset quickly pressed in and forks fitted and bingo they are a perfect match 🎉
Now it gets interesting whilst sitting back and taking in my good fortune looking at the Vulcan my brain switches into overdrive.
Those white forks look ok with the paint and the white graphics i'm sure i have a white stem, upto the cave, found it and fitted it, what if 🤔
What if i built it up to see what it's like to ride while i sort out the other fork,my impatience is kicking in now lol
Start with the wheels first any set will do, DX ones try those, nope no chance that rear is going in. Next set some XT 130mm rear axle, nope no chance 🤔
Micrometers out and it measures 127mm between the dropouts which to me means it can only take a 126mm rear hub and i'm sure they stopped doing them in 1989 🤷‍♂️ does this mean it was made in 1988 🤷‍♂️ something i will have to ask Mr Yates about.
I do have a set of Deore XT hubbed 126mm rear axle wheels with Mavic Oxygen CD rims which i believe the prototype had which fit perfectly. They need cleaning and truing up and if i'm going to fit those then i'll be building it like the prototype which is the whole point of the build i guess.
So that was the end of my idea of building it up it's almost like the Vulcan is going i ain't going anywhere until you've made me like the prototype lol
Also the front mech as i've found out because of the tubing it has to a band on mech not a clamp.

So close but so far lol

Quick little mock up with the Tange Prestige forks and some parts, the steerer hasn't been lengthened just the stem could reach it to clamp it.
First observation for the forks the eyelets will be getting taking off i want a clean look around the dropouts.
Looking at the frame compared to the prototype the only things I notice which are different is that the cable guide for the rear mech goes into the brake boss on mine the proto goes down the side of the seatstays.
Mine has a forward facing seatclamp and the monostay on the seatstays goes direct into the top of the seatube.
On the proto the clamp is rear facing and the monostay butt's up lower down on the seatube apart from that i can't see any difference.

There are a couple of Marine Lite stems on Ebay at the moment, they are very close to the design...apart from the single clamp bolt..
they could be modified to a two bolt arrangement if you were unable to find an original?
