Klein Rascal factory paint over factory paint???

Retro Newbie
Hey everyone…recently acquired a 92 (I believe) Klein Rascal. It appears to have factory Candy Teal paint and some blemishes show evidence of the Purple/Magenta fade underneath. The paint job albeit old seems to have been done pretty well and does not seem to be a rattle can job. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Thanks! IMG_8941.webp

I've heard something about this before (respray at factory) but this doesn't look like that based on how the top coat looks to have been sprayed over imperfections (drop out pic for example) and the painting around the lettering looks a little off. I had a rascal in GLF and in this aspect it just looked cleaner and sharper.

Either way, a nice bike. Dare it be worth thinking about trying to remove the top coat to see what lays beneath? It was resprayed for a reason, maybe a colour change was that reason, hopefully nothing more.

Awesome perspective, thank you for that! The more I look at it the more it does seem like a decent but not factory respray. I would love to find that purple magenta fade underneath the teal but I fear as you said it was probabaly a victim of bad sun fade like so many are.

If I were to attempt it, any suggestion how to start removing. I’ve stripped frames before but only to bare aluminum.
