Dave Yates 753 mtb

Re:

Its a shame to see this frame in this state as when Norman had it he wouldnt even take it anywhere muddy and it was always sparkling clean. Probably where all the paint went, polished off!

Re:

What happened to it, was it left outside for a few years?

Re:

It disappeared for years then the guy I got it off, built it up for his wife to use on a turbo trainer and its just been sat in his garage since. I'll pop up for another chat with him when i get the chance to see if he can explain how it got in to such a state!

Didnt look any where near as bad last night in the dark

Re:

Good grief, looks like he kept it at the bottom of his pond.

Well, it's not a DONKIS NOB, nor is it a Diabolo, I fancy it is a bit of a one off custom or maybe a transition between one era and the next.

I don't think all is lost by any means, the joy of steel, in part, is it's repairability, but at the very least a new top tube is needed, which is £100 job, plus paint and decals.

If you are prepared to spend a few hundred pounds getting the frame back together, you'll have a very nice bike at the end.

I have two Dave Yates and have previously owned another, they are all great bikes to ride, with a real sense of fun about them.

See what Sinnerman has to say, he is better placed to identify the earlier models than me.

Re:

TBH the bike is to small for me as im 5'10 and the frame is 15" with a 20.5" top tube.
Only really got the bike because it was too nic eto see rotting away and it had 9 speed shifters on it, which will make shift on my Yo til I can get a set of m952s.

Also has what I'm told is a centaur Chainset and Royce Ti BB, which I'm pretty sure was the OE Norman built this bike with.

Re:

before getting too excited I'd try and sand a bit of the top tube down to bare metal to see how bad that rust actually is, it may only be surface.

If the top tube looks like swiss cheese after sanding, then yes, you have a problem.

Re:

It's not just the rust jimo the top tube is also dented!

It is looking very sad Lee, Norm be gutted to see it in this state

Re:

I know it is sad for those that knew the bike before, but it is really not a disaster.

I had a new top tube put into my 92 DOGS BOLX when I first rescued it and have covered hundreds of offroad miles on it since, it just needs someone with the will and the funds to bring it back to working condition.
