Cytech 2 - Spokespeople - a photographic record

Hmmmmm... Worked with some Cytech desciples, they were young and not very interested in anything other than Cytech

Showing them other methods of of getting stuck stuff unstuck garnered nothing more than horrified looks and muttering.

Thankfully Park tools seemed to have been looking over my shoulder as new tools came along to solve the new issues with the new parts

They didn't have a clue about cotter pins though and definitely frowned at my stainless steel spoons that could remove the most stubborn tire from a rim without marking or lacerations as yet another plastic lever broke.

I got sacked in the end! 🤣
 
Day 6 - Hub Servicing
Cup n Cone - always fiddly getting the balls into the hub.
Hope & DT Swiss hub learning to pull out the bearings and press them back in.

Day 8 the exam!
For us on the 10 day course, we just needed to strip and rebuild a bicycle in a day. Wheel build would happen later, as we hadn't been taught it yet. If you just sit the cytech 2 one day exam, you need to strip and rebuild a bike, rebuild a wheel, and bleed a hydraulic brake all in one day 9am to 4:30pm. Those on the 10day course have less time pressure and spread those tasks out. We had already done enough brake bleeds to sign that off.
Obviously taking photo's during the exam is a bit risky, as it breaks up work flow. Nevertheless it went well.

I took photo's to show where cables were clamped and the height of the derailleur.
Top tip's are: don't over strip a bicycle; play around with the bicycle so you know how good it is to begin with and fit items on the bike that are in a similar part of the bicycle.

Yikes! It would take me a month of Sundays, literally, to build a wheel within 0.2 mm lateral and radial. In fact I’ve never got that close. Respect 👏🏼
 
Day 9
Learning about wheel building.
Task is to strip and rebuild a 3 cross rear wheel
Learnt about different types of spokes from DT & Sapim.
I forget the name of the wheel builder who built the nice multi coloured wheel, but it shows leading and trailing for drive side and non drive side.

Ged (ginger haired lad) from cycleking, being told his wheel 'failed', not the nicest conversation, but it was miles of the 0.5mm tolerance.

You'll see the BSC tools, lacing tool and nipple shuffler on my desk, this definitely helped speed things up.

Another wheel build, and an afternoon to chill and work on our own stuff!

Lee the instructor was building a nice Cinelli for his son up. It was a good atmosphere.
