CX expectations

Just been out and moved shifters and retaped bars.

Re saddle. It feels wrong any other way. I have the back from hell, a healed 30 year old c1/2 fracture and no style.

Re:

Thanks for all the advice.

Final configuration, subject to possible mini v brakes?

Mini-Vs with a rear canti hanger? I think the RB gallows would be brought out doing such a thing.

A Kona fork uphanger may improve things on the front.

What is wrong with the cantis anyway? I can't make out what brand they are...the brake blocks do look
short and low end mushy roady types though.

I use 72mm cartridge type brake blocks which are normally for MTBs on my CX and they work fine even for 700c.

Ok will invest in some decent blocks first. An issue is dropping the wheel out as the straddle won't release from canti.

Re:

Just built up a Cotic Escapade as a demo bike.....

Not the lightest CX bike I've ever ridden - but definitely the most versatile......

Tyre pressure for terrain is the real secret behind the performance of CX bikes. Get it wrong and they punish you badly.

Depends.... That's why it's such a bitch!

Long asphalt hauls need as much as you can get - but offroad you'll be shaken to bits with more than 45 or 50, depending on the tracks.....

I tend to run around 60psi and just suffer when it gets bumpy. 60psi for a big lad is probably about right - but you might benefit from wider tyres.

The Cotic Escapade looks interesting. Only in three sizes though which is a bit of a shame.

 I'm about 85 kilos at the moment, do most of my cx hacking at about 2-2.2 bar, on uci legal (33mm wide) tyres. The missus runs "below" 2.
Neither of us ever pinch punctures.
