Creaking when peddling with some power

One of my bikes with a slightly moving BB as you describe was making a creaking noice under load. Eventually after much humming and hawing I discovered it was my seatpost....weird

Not usually the bb in my experience, i have found in the past that it has also been the seat post with mine. I've also had creaks that have turned out to be the pedal!

Ive had this prob as well now and again, never turned out to be the BB but either seat post or bars creaking in the stem clamp !!

i believe in fixies":1hwef2ic said:
Dodgy knees?

Funny you should say that, my dad rides my old 96 Giant atx 850 as a daily, but he went somewhere a while ago where he wouldnt feel happy locking it up outside so he used my mums dbr ladies thing and the seat is clearly too low for him and he encountered a creaking/cracking noise which after about half an hour of trying to pinpoint, realised it was his knees lol.

As to the op, try as suggested, spray lube on seat rails where they enter the seat underneath, maybe pull off the cranks and apply a little copper grease and same on the chainring bolts so as to eliminate these as possible culprits?

I had the same problem..and i was convinced the sound came somewhere form the front...from the bottom bracket or the cranks or the chain or, or, or...
Actually it was the rear mech. Took it apart, cleaned and lubed the jockey wheels. ➡️ Silence. :D
