Nope. Seen a couple particularly bad offenders recently (which prompted this thread), but nothing I hadn't seen already.

I think people who use the net often know to spend some time on forum a/b/c to gain advice and learn what to trust.

It is the ugly beauty of the internet though, the non regulation.
If someone has an illness or symptoms advise never to look it up on the internet they'll get depressed knowing from the experts they don't have long left to live.

I was thinking that but didn't want to ask.

Now you've broached the subject though Mike, come on 'thecannibal'... spill the beans.

OK, maybe the advice that a cracked rim should be drilled at the end of the crack in order to make the rim safe to ride was the straw that broke my back. (Picture a camel with a mountain of shitty straws loosely adhered to its back - that's me!)

there was also the scary thread about the interchangeability of 1 1/8" vs. 1" forks just coz it fit.

I agree with the OP. Some heavy posters seem authoritative but offer wild guesses with no mechanical knowledge. Would they feel responsible if somebody took their advice and harmed themselves?

It's the internet afterall and you shouldn't believe everything you read are useless caveats when a person asks for help, thinks he is getting good advice and rides off on a dangerous time bomb of a bike.

Sorry, been a bit busy - cracked rim you say?

I'll think on it...

Aren't we getting just a teensy little bit PC here??

We'll be expecting dodgy chunky sweaters with Retrobike logos and green Doc Martins next!
