...and as it keeps being alluded to; I didn't argue with Rody either.

I merely said that as a 'craftsman,' which he undoubtedly is, he would find it offensive to bodge something back into use rather than 'doing the job properly' which is what he was advocating.

Marshalls in Cambridge service planes from all over the World, including for the Military, and if one of their 'Engineers' tells me he can repair my frame and it will be safe to ride then I am inclined to believe him ;)

In a nutshell...

Anyhow, that's fine. He has no flippin' clue what he's doing or talking about. http://2012.handmadebicycleshow.com/exh ... ycleworks/ ;)

This is an exciting show stateside. Should be some nice pictures coming up on the web shortly.

:p

John's right! So, I think it best if we rest this subject and let it drop. No sense beating it to death. The lines and thoughts are obvious and really, there's no reason to argue for the sake of arguing. Sorry for my hijack. I didn't understand what the Rody stuff was about and I am a huge fan of his.

Indeed, what happened is a shame and could probably do without being dragged over again. Rody is indeed a true craftsman, thanks for sharing the link to his NAHBS stuff :)

That NAHBS show is local to me. Wish I had a day free to give it a look. I have maybe half a day.

I just followed some crap advice not 15 minutes ago installing my headset race on the fork with a piece of wood and a hammer. I'll follow more crap advice tomorrow night when I install the headset.

Long live crap advice!

This what I have said all along, and never disputed, which is why I didn't understand the vitriol at the time or why it keeps being dragged up??

Nor, it having been alluded to several times in this thread, why I am not allowed to defend my point without being accused of God knows what all over again??

That's the downside to the web; you can say what you like over a pint in the pub after a ride and no-one will take offence because it's just a discussion and everyone contributes, but say the same thing on a forum and you get the usual 'Troll' accusations...

I'm going to lock this one given it's already run it's course.

Back to the OPs point of crap advice. This is an internet forum, along with most other internet forums the level of advice is likely to be mixed. Although that said it's generally fairly good and as Mike puts it so well

Seems to me that the same open forum mechanism that permits bad advice to be posted also allows said bad advice to be jumped upon by clueful people, and that in general appropriate answers tend to emerge. Although I accept that this isn't any sort of guarantee :)

If people do note poor / crap / dangerous advice please PM myself or another mod. We have and will comment on such threads if necessary.

It seems to me often poor advice comes from good intentions. People want to help but perhaps ought to take on board advice they offer is just that, advice and their opinion, rather than an absolute.

You have more than been allowed to defend your point Steve. I see no censcorship or anyone saying you can't?

Why the  ? This isn't your mates down the pub. Although we have a good community spirit going on here this is still a public internet forum read by over 100,000 people a month. As such I think it's a reasonable expectation you do moderate your comments appropriately - I wouldn't 'speak' online as I would after a few refreshing beverages down the Dog & Duck.

Anyhow as mentioned above I think that will do on this thread.
