Cone spanners / hub bearings

Two of my bikes hubs need a service, as they both have a considerable side to side movement in them. I intend to service them myself, but this being my first time at servicing them I've got a couple of questions.
Did most mid nineties hubs come with standared size cone nuts or did they vary in size?,as I don't intend to buy a full set of cone spanners.
The hubs I'm servicing are shimano lx 550 and a mid nineties ritchey hubset laced to richey Rock comps.
Secondly if I need to change the bearings, was there also standard size bearings fitted.
Thanks in advance.

Life line make a cheap full set, for not much more than buying 2 seperate spanners. Ive had a set for years and they seem to last ok for budget tools. If you knacker 1 you can also buy them as singles to replace them if needed.

1/4" rear. 3/16" front....sorry forgot the second bit. 18 rear, 20 front....(im sure its 20 front). Wow my memory is terrible.🥴
