Colorful spoke nipples

Are colorful spoke nipples not popular? Don’t see to many posted here. The lbs swears by brass... but the color nipples were super cool in the 80-90’s

Seems to have been re-released recently but first seen in the 90s, there is a fantastic blog on wheel fanatyk site that goes really in depth into wheel building too.....well worth a read.

I have gold on some wheels and black on one pair. But i'm more interested in the complete wheel now. In fact i hate the gold. But i had no choice. It's how the wheels came and they are a wonderful pair of wheels. I've come across some LBS who's wheel builder can't build with alloy nips!!!!

Some of my bikes can be matched colourwise, you know same ano hubs, all brakes, mech highlights, stem,headset etc etc.
I admit it is a tad tarty, especially my polished ti and all hope purple.

I draw the line at coloured nipples :shock: :shock:

I don’t have a truing stand, but I wouldn’t mind getting one to give nipple swapping a shot.

You can just use the bike. I've built about 12 wheels in total and always used the forks and rear triangle with various bodged attachments to create an on-bike truing stand.

Dishing tool.

It'd be far easier using a stand of course, but only worth the money if you're going to be building lots of wheels over time, say, 4 or more.

Thanks for link. Those spline nipples seem to be the way to go. Generally speaking is 15 or 14 the most typical on a mtb.
