Coffee bean recommendations

I recently got hold of an espresso coffee machine and I'm looking for some coffee bean recommendations.

I take my coffee black, with no sugar and I like it really strong; so that the spoon stands up in it.

My favourite so far is Tesco Java Sumatra: http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/ ... =279856648

Others I've tried are Illy Espresso, Lavazza Espresso, Aldi Java something or other and one of Asda's own brand, but they were all a bit weak and watery for my taste.

Any recommendations?

Every month £6.50 is taken from my account and a different bag of beans from around the world lands on my doormat. I get an accompanying email detailing the variety, country of origin, farm and tasting notes. The bag states the roasting date (normally a couple of days previous). They even time the delivery so it's always a Saturday morning.

Great way of getting into coffee if you don't know what you're after: let an expert choose for you each month!

Sadly not, I'm pretty much restricted to what's available in the supermarkets, of which there is a full selection, and on-line.

Taylor's hot lava java or something is my standard issue. Strength 6. Very nice. Strong.

Sounds ideal, but it's not available as beans. My machine can take ground coffee, but I've found it works better with beans. It's one of those all-in-one jobs, where you load the beans in a hopper, press a button, it makes a lot of noise and coffee comes out.

A. Many of these small places are filled with head up the arse types. Personally, id rather just buy their product than actually talk to them

B. A pack a month ???? :shock: I'd need 10 of those a month.

That's what i thought you were asking about. I have a Bialetti and a couple of others inc a french heavyweight jobbie. Half the pleasure is in the making......

I didn't pay anywhere near the retail price for it, I bought it from my brother, who's gone to live abroad, for £50.00.

If I were choosing one, new, I would have bought something a simpler, more straight forward and considerably cheaper.

Can you use the Bialetti type coffee pots on an electric, halogen type hob, or do they only really work on a gas hob?
