City & Guilds Bicycle Mechanic. Any good?

Just looking at this course. In my 50's and worked on my own mountain bikes since being a nipper, which probably means I have some very ham fisted arse about face ways of doing things. Road bikes, what are these things that people mention in dark corners all huddled together?

No intention of opening my own bike store and conquering the world that's for certain. More of an indulgence for my own curiosity.

So anybody done them? Anybody employed people who have done them and what where they like? Anybody teach them?

Any feedback welcome.

Yup, it’s entry 3 which is very basic, then level 1 and 2. I deliver city and guild quals at work and this is really interesting tbh. However due to Clovis 19 no assessments are being carried out properly as yet, so no training prior can be booked, until September anyway I rek. I’ll have a look through work see if I can get affiliated and do it with some of my students.

Just checking the current website and it’s not listed anywhere, are you looking at the pdf that was up to 2013?

May have expired

Re:

I didn't know they did such a thing?
I don't know about industry standard, but Cytech gets a lot of mentions.
I did the Velo tech silver a few years ago, tbh nothing I couldn't already do, it's just now I got a piece of paper to say that I could do it
I would do the Gold, but that's nothing I can't already do either  and my employer won't pay for it now.
The only thing I took away from it was accountability and checking things in an orderly fashion so as not to miss anything out, essential if you're in a business.

If you're just curious then I say go for it, it won't do any harm.
Then next you can book yourself on a frame building course and build your own bike :)

I did one, it was good, but probably depends to some extent on who is delivering it.

Have I got it right, that 3 is the intro, then you do 1 and then 2?

I just did level 2. It covered pretty much everything apart from hydraulic brakes and suspension. Was probably about 5 years ago now. Worthwhile.
