Cinelli Gazzetta della Strada - Italian or English thread?

Similar tube and ride quality to a surly, but with more class and less "attitude".

I mean what does Surly mean?
Do you want a "Surly" bike??
Its the pantheon of emotional projection - raceface, surly, no fear etc. Slacker vibe, baggy shorts and vans, quite likely to be carrying a king size rizla and a clipper lighter. The opposite end of the cycling spectrum from Cervelo, Rapha and stupidly long socks. But...they are not cheap are they? I always baulked at the price tag. Very practical though.

Genesis Equilibrium? That brings a whole bunch of values with it. For old timers like me the brand name makes me think of Phil Collins, Jeremy Clarkson and prog rock.

Funny old game, marketing.

To me, Genesis is still quite a ‘cool’ brand, but maybe this is a wake up call for me to face the reality of being middle aged 😆.

Surly definitely occupy the slightly older ‘hipster’ end of the market (do people still use that word? Again, middle aged…), with the prices to match.

The Cinelli has a classic look, of course, and actually I’d never noticed that model before so it’s interesting to see one.

Do you mean cool with a slight derogatory take?
As in a bit overpriced and flashy?

Because I do find that their Croix de Fer definitely has a hipster aura to it. And I do find their bikes very expensive for what they are.

However, there are not many steel road bikes to choose from (comparatively) and having found one at good price I'm definitely tempted to jump onto the Genesis bandwagon. I can always resell it if I feel too pretentious riding it :)

No, I wasn’t being derogatory about Genesis, actually. I’m probably biased as it’s a British brand, but I quite like them. I owned one of their single-speed bikes for a while (bought second hand), it was nicely made and rode well.

I don’t think anyone else would think you pretentious for riding one, anyway…

I see.
Do British brands have stereotypes?

When I think of a British brand I think of Dawes. Solid, functional, quality bikes.

Genesis. New-age British?
Whatever that means
