Chainrings spacing

Houston we have a problem. Not sure you can do much, it would seem that the cranks are not compatible with the front mech. The issue must be the width of the cage of the front mech, ie. a narrower cage would be needed to clear the crank arm while guiding the chain up to the big ring.
 
On second thoughts another spacer on the drive side might work. The clearances seem very tight though perhaps the cranks were designed for narrower chainstays.
 
Just checked and I don't think there's any hope to use this spider.
Forgive the wrong terminology, I'll try to explain what I measured.
The crank axle is too short to allow any more than 2 spacers.
In fact, with 2 spacers the left cup engages the axle only by a couple of mm which is surely asking for trouble.
Given this, is it time to go back to search for another crank?
 
this is the very reason most MTB specific cranksets have that kink in the cranks arms to clear the wider spacing in the chain stays

dunno if you can find additional spacers? (and if you have enough width in the axle to fit them!)
otherwise I think these cranks won't work with your frame I'm afraid
if you space out the drive side is the non drive side clearing the frame?
 
Ok, I'm resigned to get a different crankset.
Looking at XT M770 which would be age correct I'm told (everything else is xt)
In the meantime I want to fit the original one, a truvativ with isis bottom bracket.
The bb is wobbly, so I need a new one.
What do you think of this Neco?
