Caroline Alexander’s Klein “Pulse” - Attitude by a different name? Racing History, no less.

She came in 3rd in this race in 1994. Looks like a very rough course. I couldn’t do it! Here are some screenshots of the rider. What a legend!

Slowly edging closer.

To do..
Wheels to build;
BB bearings to sort (depends on what LBS reckon);
Steerer reducer shim - there’s one in there but I’m not convinced it is perfect;
Left crank replacement as the original broken one was long lost;
Free the post and find an alternative or put back in;
And finally, sort something out with the cable guide hole under the BB which is nice and corroded. 🤔

But it’s moving nicely.

Boys and girls - we have hoops and hubs. I would have bought a Ringlé rear ($300+) but I’m reliably informed Caz could have very feasibly run a M900 so I’ll take it. Costs could spiral out of control so I’m trying to keep a sympathetic cost effective lid on it. It’s really hard to do so to be honest.

BUT, Onwards… For Caz.

Front end looking better, reconditioned saddle and a nicely used bottle cage are on…

The Girvin fork is remarkable. I don't recall ever seeing one back in the day, but I remember the Girvin stems. It was all Mag21 as soon as they came out around 1993 ish.

The bike of course is drool worthy, and I like how the exotic looking fork pairs with the exotic Pulse, more interesting than just the humdrum rigid steel oem fork or even a Mag21

Do you think you can track down Caroline once you are done with it and let her know of your work?

I am sure she would be delighted to see someone bringing back to life one of the most memorable bikes of her career.

I’ll try to but I’ve been told she’s a really private person and, as a consequence, very hard to reach. Worth a shot though.
