Car advice

nissan micra, my moms got one, best car she's had apparently but then the health board provided her with all her previous cars

Honda Jazz or if she want a smaller one, then try the latest Ford Ka, it's bigger than the older model, there will be plenty Ford dealerships local to you.

Personally go for the new model Ka.

Yaris's are good cars, test drove a Nissan Note as well and it was tinny didn't seem as solid as the Toyota, not that you'd believe that reading the news!

Let's get the Toyota thing in perspective:

They have recalled 8 million cars, produced over several years. There have been approximately 25 documented cases of sticking accelerators for this problem.

That's 3 parts per million, or a Six Sigma level of quality - something any other car company would kill for. This is only a story 'cos it's Toyota, and 'cos they haven't handled the PR very well.

The industry expects that from an average year's production 50% of all cars produced (across all companies) will be the subject of a recall. We don't get to hear about most of them, 'cos they get done as "technical updates" at service time.

Oh, and for the little Toyota (Aygo, also known as Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1), it only concerns the "multidrive"(IIRC) transmission.

Looking for a new car for my Mum, she currently has a Focus but I'm trying to convince her to go for something smaller. I had recommended a Toyota then they all went and got recalled  Anyway smaller than a Focus, open to any make, something for a pensioner though she still doesn't like those van types they're all cutting about in. And on the economical side, and available in auto. Help me generate a shortlist :)
Nissan Micra.

I don't know if you can get an automatic, but my dad has a Vauxhall Agila and it is much, much better than you think it would be.

Incredibly cheap to run and sooo easy to drive, with beautifully light steering. And there's huge amounts of room inside. It's got more usable room inside than most big saloon cars and feels quite big, but it's only the same length as a mini.
