Canti vs V brake levers

What is the difference between the two - can V brake levers be used with cantis and vice-versa? If not, what are the reasons?

they dont pull the same amount of cable .

yes it can be done , but better to use them for what they are designed .

V-brake levers work ok with cantilevers, but the opposite isn't the case. Cantilever levers do not pull enough cable to operate side pull brakes effectively. There are some exceptions but for the most part...

Real made some levers that can be used for both (an extra machined out bit for V's) but I don't know how well they work yet.

my curve lever works fine with my lx v. maybe not as powerful as it could be but i can live with that

i always found v-brakes with canti levers to be a case of nothing-nothing-nothing-face meets trail.

Cantis are less eficient than Vs, so you need more power to brake on it. Levers for cantis are bigest than V lever. You can use V levers on canti brakes but you want more power at your forearm.

There's stuff on v's and cantis here and it's all about mechanical advantage (I think).

Anyway, use canti levers with v brakes and it will be pretty sharp (not the same as powerful).

Probably best to use the right ones for the job as they can be had easily and not expensively (unless using chi chi ones of course).
