Canti , V's or Disc brakes which is best??

In general how is the frame different, is it how the v/canti attach to the frame or how the cable gets to the brakes??

Think i am confusing myself

It's all in the cabling, the bosses that hold them on are the same.

there is a bit sticking out of the frame above the bell sticker, that is there for centre pull cantilever brakes, the outer cable should stop there instead of in the v brake like it does.

If there is not one there a hanger, redirector (e.g. noodle or a ring), etc needs to be used. Some frames used that design and all 'v brake' frames would need one as well.

V-brakes just need the boss for the outer cable to start from, be it on the frame or the full outer from the brake lever so it can go into the noodle. The boss would usually be positioned to give a nice line to the brake (one would hope) which may not be the best place for a canti lever brake.

Canti brakes need an extra stop or noodle or collar on the frame.

I see i get it now. So in theory you can use v brakes on a canti bike , that right??

sweet kona that is ;)

Generally yes - might need V Levers too ;)

In theory, yes, but it's not so straightforward on a bike that uses a noodle to guide the rear cable, or on a Kona that uses a clamp-on guide - there needs to be a stop for the last section of outer to use a V-brake (or else use a continuous run of outer from the lever)...

Cool thanks for that, learnt something today then ;) ;)

Which is best then out of the three??

in terms of power, it's

DISC > V > CANTI

in terms of weight it's

CANTI > V > DISC

You could also plot each on a continuum for: serviceability/ease of set-up
& cost. I won't take a stab at it though.
:D
