Not sure if this has been asked before, if it has sorry.

But i was wondering which has been found to work the best, i remember i used to have canti brakes but that was a long long time ago. I have used v brakes for the past 10 years, i see that there is quite a few bike builds on here using canti brakes on their builds. Are canti brakes good to have again now, or is it the original build so thats why you have put them on?

It's not always possible to mount V's instead of canti's without modifying the frame/fork on some frames. I run canti's on most of my bikes because they're pre-V and I go for period correct, myself. I have to say I don't notice much, if any difference, if the canti's are set up properly.

Right this is a really thicko question

i have wanted to know for a while but thought what a prat i am for not knowing.

don't laugh promise

The thicko question is how are canti and v frame/forks different???

Frames differ in the position of the cables and bosses for that extra section of cable to the side pull brake (akak V's)
Centre Pull (canti's) need a stop or guide to get the cable pulling in the middle.

Forks are the same unless they are suspension. Centre pull need a stop on the brace, V do not as the stop is built in to the brake itself so much like the rear.

well on some Kleins, it's not just the fork, it's the stem too and whether or not it has a noodle for a canti setup. Also, the rear mounting of a V cable on earlier Kleins is only possible using a Klein V brake adaptor that inserts into the rear of the top tube or or some sort of cable holder that mounts to the seatpost to handle the rear V brake. Some folks ignore this and simply drill out the frame to accommodate the V brake cables

And congrats...you're now a Retro Guru ;)

Wow retro guru i think not

So how does it differ on the frame?? i see what you are saying i am just getting confused :? :? :?
