Cannondale U-brake to V-brake?

Hi all,
I've got a Cannodale 89/90 MTB (unsure which model, S/N 18011089022) which has a rear shimano exage U-brake that I find to be very ineffective. I was contemplating replacing it with a V-brake but having taken U-brake off I see that the brake boss is incompatible with a V-brake as it doesn't have the little hole that V-brakes require. The bosses are screwed in so it is possible to replace them; is it possible to get replacement bosses to run a V-brake?

If not, any tips on adjusting U-brakes ;)

Cheers,

Canti and V pivot below the rim, u and roller cams above, so basically not going to work

If the springs are okay, then the u brake should be fine, new blocks maybe?

I have a deore u brake on the back of my red shred and admit they are crap but for me its a qwerky part of the bike

Re:

Rollercam brakes should fit on the u-brake mounts. Although they're probably no better tbh.

I believe you can get adapters that fit on the u-brake mounts and allow you to fit V brakes etc.

I'd favour a set of Maguras, too. If it's about brake performance and the looks are no concern ;)

You would have to mount the brackets upside down, but it is proven to work.

I was going to suggest getting a set of bmx u brakes and run mtb pads. That's what I run on my performer and that stops well enough. Even with a fully grown man on a kids bike.

I used to find my Deore U-brake (on the same Holdsworth the LGF currently has) very, very effective, even without the U-II booster (which I think I later added). It was prone to a bit of clogging up in some soils but round here it wasn't ever a problem. Is the Exabe brake a plastic covered steel affair or is it the rarer alloy version (later mountain and mountain lx groups had this)?

Carl.
