Firstly, I don't understand why using V brakes on such old bikes :facepalm:
U brake could be powerfull but you need good pads ( pads like Madison or mathauser should change your life) and good housing and cable.
If you really want V brake, change for a post 95/96 frame and keep the cannondalefir a raelly vintage built
