So how hard is it for an unfit lump? It's been suggested I do it but i'm a little concerned about slowing the group down by to much. They reckon 11mph average, so is that an easy target or is it all uphill.

By unfit I mean 7miles has me feeling a little worn out and 10-11 has me feeling like i've just run the marathon

I've not done the new Monkey Trail, but have heard it is quite hard going if you're not fit. Why not do the Follow the Dog - shorter and potentially not as hard.

what was the trail we followed last saturday? We did about 12 miles, some of it, er, involved me running up a hill chanting American style holding my bike up in the air.

I thought it was the monkey trail that we did? :?
I found it ok. There were a few nasty climbs but nothing too serious.
The good thing about most of the climbs is that they're winding singletrack rather than just slogging up fire roads etc.

There were plenty of short cuts to take to shorten the ride too :D

Rode it last year, plenty of climbing and descending in places, most of the climbs are singletrack doubling back across the face of the hills so they aren't that steep but involve a lot of sharp corners. From memory the most lung-busting climb was on the Dog before the Monkey turn off, if you can make that then the Monkey shouldn't be too hard going.
