Another C2 recommendation here!

I personally use XTR discs, but they are pricy and require XTR HUBS, but the XT ones work just about as well and bolt up to six hole hubs-the Avid Juicy brakes work well also and aren't too expensive. YOU WANT TO AVOID mechanical discs, as they don't work nearly as easily or as well.
Shimano do 2 types of rotor, one is the 'centrelock' version which needs a cassette tool to fit/remove, the other is the industry standard 6 bolt pattern (I'm talking modern here, not retro!), which is why you can only use Shimano hubs with the centrelock version, you can use any 6 bolt hubs with the 6 bolt pattern ones.Kona Paul":1nmm2s7u said:FairfaxPat":1nmm2s7u said:I would strongly recommend modern disc brakes as long as you have to buy them, as they work Sooo much better, and at a quick glance you won't notice a huge difference in looks between new and old school brakes. Except Avid BB7's. Really surprised at how good these were.

If you're going modern (assuming you have the correct mounts) Formula Oro get great user reviews.
