I hold my hands up.... I dont have a clue....

What do I need to set me LTS up with front and back discs?

The frame has disc mounts so is that a univeral mount for any disc caliper?

I have a white industry mechanical set-up now....can I use the front wheel for a different set-up ?

I really want period brakes for the bike...so 1998 era what choice do I have?

Any help or wise words would be great

Cheers

Era-wise I'd be running Formulas or Champagne Hayes.

The Formulas used 4-bolt hubs while the Hayes use the standard six-bolt standard. With that in mind I'd probably run a set of hayes. ;)

I would strongly recommend modern disc brakes as long as you have to buy them, as they work Sooo much better, and at a quick glance you won't notice a huge difference in looks between new and old school brakes. I personally use XTR discs, but they are pricy and require XTR HUBS, but the XT ones work just about as well and bolt up to six hole hubs-the Avid Juicy brakes work well also and aren't too expensive. YOU WANT TO AVOID mechanical discs, as they don't work nearly as easily or as well.

I'm guessing that the hubs you have are the WI 3 hole hubs? Great thing is that those can work with most modern 6 hole discs at a push, or Hope can make you some custom rotors to fit with their brakes so that would save you buying new wheels. Hope c2 pro's or sports would be the UK period option, parts are plentiful as are pads and they work a treat

Another vote for Hope C2's here as a period option that works. You stand a good chance of finding calipers that fit your mounts too since Hope made so many different types

Except Avid BB7's. Really surprised at how good these were.

stick to hope C2's ,they're still available on the bay ,you should get a complete set for under £50,low maintance, very easy to set-up, pads and parts are readily available,
I was still using them up to last year, great buy, not bad at 9 years with only 1 service

still using 3 sets of hope C2's, one set of which are the old black ones which are 10 years old + and still work flawlessly.
