What's the BB7 disk brake like?
I've decided to go back to a front disk but I don't want to get rid of my STI units so considering a cable disk. Is it as good as an XTR V brake?
Alternatively, can you get a converter to change from cable to hydraulic?!

Thanks.

My boss's mrs bike has bb5's had a go on it wow one of the best brakes I have ever used. so if thats anything to go on bb7's should be 2 better than that! and thats a scientific fact.

BB7s are pretty good. Different by far from XTR rim brakes.

Comparing them to good hydraulic discs, they are up there with some of the better ones, and for certain applications make much more sense.

I ride XC only, so I am happy with Vs.

I upgraded from a Avid SD2.0 V to a BB7 on an old FSR I had, brakes were great, could keep my standard V on the back with the disc on the fork which were disc only. Worked fine with the SD 2.0 levers I had at the time.

I'm happy with my BB7s - use them front and rear on mine. They are a bit "soft" when you first put them on and I think this puts a lot of people off them. They take a good 20 miles or so to bed in after which they are as good, IMO, as any of the hydraulics I've tried.

The only downside, compared to hydraulics, is the need to occasionally adjust them but it only takes a few seconds and I like the simplicity.

The Avid SD levers work well with them (as you'd expect) although the standard Shimano V brake levers I used at first also worked well with them.

I have Avid mechanical brakes on four bikes including my main ride. I even have the first Avid mechanical disc model before they were called BB7s. They are still working and came before the standard disc diameters were set. They came with 165mm rotors. They work fine on the standard 160 rotors. In summary, I have had no problems with them. They always work. Hydraulics are a little more arm friendly on long downhill rides.

Can't be 100% sure they look very similar got pro-max logo's on the levers & calipers :?
But as I said at this price worth a punt ;)

I run BB7's front and rear on my Seven Sola, and I love them.

echoing the above, they're great in use, nice and powerful, easy to adjust and after about 20 miles of initial use, they feel like brakes...

Highly recommended here, and I picked up brand new disc/caliper sets from CRC for £50 per end.
