Browning Trials Unit - British steel 🇬🇧 Built by Swallow

Re: Another British Build! Browning Trials Unit!

Depending on what type of paint was used to touch-up, then surgical spirit/nail polish remover may do the job. I managed to remove similar bad touch-up attempts from my little Alpinestars with nail polish remover without damaging the original paint at all. Go easy though - don't want to damage that lovely paint job.

Oh and another vote for leaving the patina. I began restoring (in the loosest sense of the word) an old Schwinn Fastback last year which I reckon looked pretty good when polished with T cut after the rust had been sanded away.

Re:

Patina it is.

quick mock up and a rolling chassis to see how it sits...

Coast to Coast was great fella, proper ached all over for days tho, didnt help my chain snapped and wouldnt repair due to the pins being so bent, and the new chain didnt gel with the middle ring well  making it pret-ty hard going sometimes.

Couple of XT parts added, and some real upgrades of the day I believe.....

Re: Another British Build! Browning Trials Unit!

Glad to see you enjoyed the coast to coast even though it does put a bit of a damper on things when the new chain won't mesh on the middle ring so maybe that ring is toast then due to excess wear n tare :( so it's no wondered you ached so much with that ring out of action and magura and lovely ol XT mm yep! certainly an upgrade even now for me at least ;) and what chain are you running on this mate as i'm tempted to try sram on my ol Raliegh due to how popular it seems these day's and decide wether i prefer it over shimano ..

Re: Another British Build! Browning Trials Unit!

Looks cool, but personally I think you need to reduce the number of colours across the stem, bars, seat post and saddle.

I think I'd go blAck post, stem and bars and keep the saddle

Re: Another British Build! Browning Trials Unit!

Looking good mate 8-)

I too would go with a black post but I reckon the yellow bar and red saddle tie in nicely with the frame colours front and rear. I reckon that seatpost is just a placeholder anyway?

Re: Another British Build! Browning Trials Unit!

Very cool bike and build! Like the Magura Hydrostop and the 1. gen gripshifters!

Re:

Chain was worn a little.... only been fitted for 6 months and had been used for the work commute which is pretty flat, I think hardnott pass may have been to blame, the actual pins were bent and wouldnt go back in after taking out a link - proper peeved :? but yeah, middle ring was a pre-ride 'it'll be alright' trying to convince myself moment.....

Seatpost came with the frame and is a 28.8mm.... seems hard to find anything nice in that size, I have a suspension seatpost I was going to use, sort of in keeping with the 'upgrading' we used to do as kids but would need shimming and its a 25.4 plus its a champagne colour... and I agree, seatpost would look better in black.

Bars will stay, they just go.

Re:

Finally.....

Groupset is a mix of XT and DX, gripshift is working good, a much more solid click than the newer stuff albeit a little 'larger' on the hand, brakes are fantastic, yeah a faff to set up but they stop you dead. seatpost will be changed to black when I can find a suitable candidate in 28.8mm, pedals will do until something nice turns up - they do the job.

I now officially have nowhere to hide bikes anymore!
