Hi all.
New year - time to bring this thread out of Hibernation..... it's been about 7 months since I last added anything. It's been mainly about sourcing Suntour XC pro parts to complete the parts list.
Great spot!
That would be great to own alongside your very own Serotta build Proflex!
@gtturbo @27motorhead - Thanks for the heads up on the brochure.....Yes. I did buy it from your link. Nice to have this to go with the build.
My 1990..... original given to my friend by Bob girvin. My friend was a retailer for them and became friends with bob. I was able to confirm from Ben Serrota himself that there were roughly eighty of these made. Mine has a few tasteful changes, ceramic m231 , Grafton skewers, American classic post skewer, and ti one piece flex stem. This is how I received it and this is how it's staying!!
P.S If you ever need a new elastomer, go to your local craft store and buy a laminating roller. They cost about $10 and are the same material used for the clear, yellowish elastomers. I was lucky in the one that I bought was the same diameter as well!!
Of course I found it after I spent $70 for two on ebay...
Oh and this bike actually came with a two piece elastomer So I had to cut one and a half and shape it.

Lovely!
Thanks for adding this to the thread. A superb example and some great information about built numbers.
Thanks for the heads up on the elastomers too. Fortunately, when I bought mine, the elastomer had already been replaced with a brand new 'green' one......but that's great info for anyone looking to source similar.
So....
Parts sourced. It's time to make a start on bringing the Pro-flex back to it's former glory.
First up. Colour matching the paint.
At work we have colour matched swatches from all manufacturers. I could take the frame into a paint store and custom colour match the red, but if possible - I try to match to a manufacturers colour. That way I can buy from eBay.....mainly because the store opening times don't fit in with work and they don't do weekends. Every time I've gone to catch closing on a Fri, the door is already locked before official closing time...... frustrating!!
The paint on this frame is quite varied too. Dull patches in places, lighter in others. It's certainly had a hard life!
Most likely it's a RAL code powder coat too. It is darker in reality than the magazine pics and articles seem to show.
I've decided to go a shade more vivid than stock just to give it some 'zing'
The colour choices are -
Ford Colorado Red
VAG Rot Uni
VAG Rallye Red
I've gone with the Ford Colorado Red. These colour choices have been tried in natural daylight too....they don't photograph well for the purpose of this thread! It's the brighter red that looks better all round to me.
The rear swing arm and forks are an easy match. Straight, run of the mill gloss black. The flexstem is neon yellow.
More to come....
Cheers
