boy"O"boy's 1990 Serotta Offroad Pro-flex

I've got to get this restoration underway. I'm happy to share info here if you need anything with your resto. One of my next jobs is to contact @gil_m and see what he's got on file and what decals need drawing up. Like the line-up of bikes in your signature btw.
Many thanks fella. Ill keep an eye on your progress. ! Cheers

Re-launch?!?
Any details of that? (eleswhere, not in this thread).
Muddy fox, yes.. I’ve been consulting on it, helped get it going, so to speak. Long story. Cant really scream about it just yet, there’s been the usual production delays.

Put it this way, Muddy fox will be leaving its current home (kinda) and it’s being done properly. Will be awesome..

My 1990..... original given to my friend by Bob girvin. My friend was a retailer for them and became friends with bob. I was able to confirm from Ben Serrota himself that there were roughly eighty of these made. Mine has a few tasteful changes, ceramic m231 , Grafton skewers, American classic post skewer, and ti one piece flex stem. This is how I received it and this is how it's staying!!

P.S If you ever need a new elastomer, go to your local craft store and buy a laminating roller. They cost about $10 and are the same material used for the clear, yellowish elastomers. I was lucky in the one that I bought was the same diameter as well!!

Of course I found it after I spent $70 for two on ebay...

Oh and this bike actually came with a two piece elastomer So I had to cut one and a half and shape it.

Hi all.
New year - time to bring this thread out of Hibernation..... it's been about 7 months since I last added anything. It's been mainly about sourcing Suntour XC pro parts to complete the parts list.
Great spot! That would be great to own alongside your very own Serotta build Proflex!
@gtturbo @27motorhead - Thanks for the heads up on the brochure.....Yes. I did buy it from your link. Nice to have this to go with the build.

Lovely! 😎😎 Thanks for adding this to the thread. A superb example and some great information about built numbers.

Thanks for the heads up on the elastomers too. Fortunately, when I bought mine, the elastomer had already been replaced with a brand new 'green' one......but that's great info for anyone looking to source similar.

So....

Parts sourced. It's time to make a start on bringing the Pro-flex back to it's former glory.

First up. Colour matching the paint.
1000012984.jpg
At work we have colour matched swatches from all manufacturers. I could take the frame into a paint store and custom colour match the red, but if possible - I try to match to a manufacturers colour. That way I can buy from eBay.....mainly because the store opening times don't fit in with work and they don't do weekends. Every time I've gone to catch closing on a Fri, the door is already locked before official closing time...... frustrating!!
The paint on this frame is quite varied too. Dull patches in places, lighter in others. It's certainly had a hard life!
Most likely it's a RAL code powder coat too. It is darker in reality than the magazine pics and articles seem to show.
I've decided to go a shade more vivid than stock just to give it some 'zing'
The colour choices are -
1000012985.jpg
Ford Colorado Red

1000012869.jpg
VAG Rot Uni

1000012986.jpg
VAG Rallye Red

I've gone with the Ford Colorado Red. These colour choices have been tried in natural daylight too....they don't photograph well for the purpose of this thread! It's the brighter red that looks better all round to me.

The rear swing arm and forks are an easy match. Straight, run of the mill gloss black. The flexstem is neon yellow.

More to come....
Cheers

Colour match sorted and paint ordered. It's onto the decals before stripping the paint.
I've chosen to trace these on both sides on the same piece of paper as I can also use these as a positioning guide for the replacements.
These are white printed onto clear. I'm looking to get these done in the same format rather than apply vinyl cuts to this one. Reproducing the 'made in USA' shield will be interesting too.

Good to see the update.
How easy/hard is it to source XC Pro components? They don’t seem to come up for sale very often, and also it seems rare to see an old bike for sale with a full group set, where you could buy the bike and strip it for parts?
