Hi All.

So, after completing the Trek 8700 (well...it's still an on going project as such!) I started to get a bit 'Twitchy' about not having in projects in reserve. I posted a wanted ad with no specific bikes in mind and development_cycle came to my aid with 2 worthy contenders.
I ended up buying both.... more to come on the other purchase but for the time being, here are some start off pics of the Stumpjumper.

Now.
What to do with it?

The paint is absolutely shot and the decals tired but everything else is sound. A repaint and new decals is one the cards, but which direction to go in.

i) Go original 1990 Stumpjumper comp?
White with red decals. spanky22b has already done a very nice one of these.... but I've got a blank canvas here.

ii) Go for a 88 or 89 Stumpjumper Team colourway?
Love this colour scheme but should I be dressing it as something it isn't ( or is? ) The 89 had Canti mounts vs Chainstay U-brake on the 88. The colours are very slightly different also.

iii) Go for an individual take on the Stumpjumper colourway?
I've got a really nice 89/90 Stumpjumper Team jersey in the yellow/ pink colours. Should I do something inspired by this?

I may put a poll up to decide, to see what the collective would like to see....

but in the meantime, I'll be listening to yours thoughts and suggestions here.

And there was me thinking four-arm chainsets were a late '90s abomination. Turns out they're a late '80s abomination.

It’s the 1988 team Stumpjumper with ubrake: lugged tange prestige built in Japan.

The bike in the article might very well be mine! I bought mine in 1989 and the guy said it had been used as the magazine press bike.

The 4 arm chain set is a Browning electronic shift set up that was offered as an option.

Narrowed it down to these 4 options after some thought. Poll runs for 3 weeks so plenty of time to strip it and get it ready for paint! (Hopefully!! )

Hadn't noticed that adroitstif! - was looking beyond and had assumed it was silver XT. Good thing doctor-bond was able to identify it. It's not from the same Browning connection as my Marin PM though!

Cheers doctor-bond. Been checking out your own 1988 Team in your signature. Interesting that yours could be the actual bike in the test. If the FS ad was in an earlier MBUK, I may well have a look for it!

As it's going to need a complete repaint, I'm going to go with which ever way the poll goes. Haven't necessarily thought what I'll do if the Jersey option wins though.
