Bottom bracket tool help needed

Hi all...I'm trying to replace the knackered bb on this 2006 kona but am stuck. The raceface cranks came off with ease but my standard shimano/isis tool wont fit over the spindle as there seems to be a small collar preventing the splines going in place. Am I being retarded or is there a specific tool. Not even sure what bb in currently in place...any ideas?

It's probably because the teeth on that type of tool are fixed onto an inner lip which has a diameter which is too small to fit around the circular piece on your axle. The pics below are of another tool where the teeth are very close to the inner lip, so I'm sure it would work for you. There probably is a specialized tool though, like you say, but I imagine it would be very similar to mine, and quite likely not as cheap as my non specialist one, although mine is still quite rare as I think they've all stopped making this design since it's quite prone to twisting as can be seen from by example a bit

Thanks for the advice buddy...all of what you say makes sense. I have been told locally I need a park BBT22 so gonna try that as I cant see any others available to buy like yours that fit the bill....fingers crossed

Standard Octalink/Isis should fit.
That chainline spacer is standard on most of them.
Does a tap with hammer help? It did for me.

Original shimano splined ones for square taper often do not fit as they are not wide enough in the middle for Isis.

I did try a gentle hammer but got scared as it got stuck....nowhere near enough to extract....hmmm

you can bore out the inside diameter of the tool

Have you tried removing the other side? Depending on the bb, if you get one side out, the axle may come with it, allowing your current tool to remove the remaining cup without axle interference.

Yeah I have but its the same story on both sides. Anyway I have the Park tool on the way so hopefully that will work :?:
